Chiropractor for Shoulder & Arm Pain

shoulder-armWe see many people with shoulder and arm problems in our practice. The problem could be in the shoulder, arm, elbow, wrist, hand or a combination of both. These joints form a chain so a problem in one can often affect other joints.

Did you know that your arm can do more movements than any other part of your body. We learn, build, communicate and use things with our hands so it makes sense that it should have a versatile range of movements. With that movement we enjoy, sometimes there are problems. Quite often, a problem in the neck or thoracic spine can contribute also.

That is why a thorough examination (done here at Ryde Chiropractic) is important to discover the underlying cause of your problem.

What kind of shoulder and arm problems do we see?

Causes of shoulder pain and dysfunction we work with include:

  • Shoulder impingement syndrome – a condition where tendons in the shoulder are squeezed during movement such as raising the arm.
  • Muscle and tendon sprains and strains like rotator cuff tendonitis.
  • Frozen shoulder

Common problems in the elbow include often come from strains from overuse for example, in tennis or golf. It is also common for such problems to come from using a keyboard and mouse at a desk for long hours.

For the wrist and hand, we often see stiffness and pain, numbness or tingling in the hands. This could be from problems like carpal tunnel syndrome, sprains, strains and arthritic changes.

Shoulder/arm pain treatment with Chiropractic

It is important to check all the joints in the neck, mid back, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand to find out what joints, muscles, nerves and ligaments are involved. Once we know what is wrong, we can create a personalised program of care to ease your problem. We use hands-on chiropractic care, using gentle adjustments, mobilisations and soft tissue releases to improve movement and decrease pain. We prescribe a series of exercises which will help flexibility and stability to help deal with underlying imbalances. We also give advice on the lifestyle habits which have contributed to the development of your problem.
